Managing-Up: I’ll show you mine if you show me yours

managing-up from The McQuaig Psychometric System from HolstManaging-Up: I’ll show you mine if you show me yours

The skill of ‘managing-up’ is a difficult one to master. Your manager probably has a good idea of how to manage you. But do you know how to manage them?

If you were recruited using psychometric testing then your boss has probably seen your psychometric profile. This means they will have a good idea of your strengths.

If you want to get better at managing-up ask your manager to have a discussion about your psychometric profile. Then be brave – ask if it would be possible to see their profile. A good manager will have nothing to lose and see the benefits. Be prepared to be rebuffed – not everyone is happy to share their ‘inner workings’.

Users of the McQuaig Psychometric System can use the Strategies for Coaching & Developing report to do this. Get both you and your manager’s ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ pages and see if you are on track.
